"My teaching philosophy is based on the idea that each individual has their own unique challenges in the study of the double bass. I feel therefore that my students deserve instruction that caters to their own unique individuality, within the structure of solid principles of string playing. Rather than using the same pre-determined approach with everyone, I strive not only to help the student gain a strong foundation, but to be able to apply these principles to their own unique physiology and thought processes. In other words, my goal is to give each individual that I work with the means to fulfill their true artistic potential."

Dr. Stoops joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma School of Music as Artist/Teacher of Double Bass in August 2006. He also serves as chair of the string department.

Previous faculty appointments include Bowling Green State University College of Musical Arts, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the Ann Arbor School for Performing Arts in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, Iowa.
